Drafted by the Vancouver Canucks 10th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Hodgson would make his NHL debut in February 2011. He has represented Canada on the world-stage three times, bringing home Gold for Canada twice: in the 2008 IIHF World U18 Championships and the 2009 World Junior Championships. He would spend over two years in the Canucks system before a surprise trade to Buffalo in 2012. With the Sabres, Cody had good production totals before injuries started to impact his ability to play. In 2015, he signed a one-year contract with the Nashville Predators and in 2016 retired from the NHL when he was diagnosed with malignant hyperthermia, caused by a mutation of his RYR-1 gene. Since his retirement, he has worked to raise awareness for the disease, partnering with the RYR-1 Foundation to create a documentary.
