Dale McCourt is a former Canadian professional ice hockey forward renowned for his impactful career in the NHL and European leagues. McCourt enjoyed a storied junior career highlighted by his captaincy of the Hamilton Fincups, where he led the team to a Memorial Cup victory in 1976. Dale was selected first overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1977 NHL amateur draft. McCourt had a sensational rookie year, leading the Red Wings in scoring as well as finishing second in Calder Trophy voting. Dale went on to spend parts of five seasons with the Red Wings. McCourt capped off his remarkable career representing the Buffalo Sabres, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Following his NHL career, McCourt played for HC Ambrì-Piotta in Switzerland from 1985 to 1992, where he became a beloved figure, resulting in the retirement of his jersey number.
