Gary Leeman represented Canada twice as part of the World Juniors in ’83 & ’84 (Leningrad and Sweden respectively) and was then drafted by the Leafs 24th overall in the 1982 Entry Draft.
Leeman played nearly 700 NHL games for 5 different clubs and spent 9 seasons with Toronto where he was on the famous “Hound Line” with Wendel Clark & Russ Courtnall.
In 1986-87, Leeman was a top goal scorer for the Leafs with four-straight 20-goal seasons. In 1988-89, he scored 32 goals and was picked to play in the NHL All-Star Game.
Leeman became the second player in Leaf history to score 50 goals in a season and after nearly nine seasons, he was sent to Calgary in a high-profile trade that brought Doug Gilmour to Toronto. To date, the 10 player deal is the largest in NHL history.
After a brief period in Calgary, Leeman asked for a trade and was sent to Montreal, where he and the Canadiens would go on to capture the Stanley Cup in 1993.
Leeman finished his NHL career with stops in Vancouver and St. Louis and played three additional seasons in Europe before retiring in 1999.
